Greenpeace had accused JBS of collaborating in deforestation by failing to prevent cattle from illegally deforested land from entering the supply chain.
However, a Brazilian court yesterday (13 June) granted an injunction against the non governnmetal organisation (ngo) forcing it to suspend circulation of the document or its contents in any format, and ensuring that the document is removed from Greenpeace’s website.
Failing to comply with the injunction would incur a daily fine of 50,000 Brazilian reais (£15,5000).
A statement from JBS claimed that Greenpeace has acknowledged that the report contained “serious errors” as a result of media scrutiny. The company also reaffirmed its commitment to advancing social and environmental initiatives and “building an economicaly feasible society which is environmentally correct”.
Greenpeace have yet to comment on the injuction.
