More than €199m has been set aside by the European Union to combat animal diseases in 2013.
It is hoped the funding will support programmes aimed at eradicating, controlling and monitoring animal diseases and zoonoses.
In total, 137 programmes have been selected for the funding to tackle a variety of animal diseases, which cause problems for human health, the health of animals and trade.
The EU also pointed out that salmonellosis cases had been decreasing over the past five years. Cases of salmonellosis are the second most-reported zoonotic disease in humans.
