A German business making sealants for the food and drink industry said it plans to increase prices by 15% in April.

Actega DS claims to be one of the world’s leading producers of sealants for the food and drink sector and said prices for thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) compounds will rise by 15%. The price increase comes into effect on 1 April 2017.

Actega said it will be “forced” to pass the price increase on to customers after an “unforeseen, massive raw material price increase, especially for synthetic rubber materials”.

The company suggested it would not be able to provide the global food and drink industry with “new and innovative compound solutions” if it absorbed the higher raw material costs. It also said passing the costs to customers would ensure the business could maintain the “highest standards in quality of production and service”.

Earlier this year, UK-based plastic packaging manufacturer Linpac hiked the price of its expanded polystyrene products (EPS) by 10%, due to increased oil prices and currency volatility.
