Australian meat body reveals board elections

By Nicholas Robinson , 22-Nov-2012

Two new members have been elected to the board of Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), while two others have been re-elected, following the organisation’s annual general meeting.

John Mckillop and Christine Gilbertson were newly elected to the MLA board, while Gregory Harper and Peter Trefort were re-elected for another term.

Managing director Scott Hansen said: “This has given us a great opportunity as a company to take a fresh look at how we operate and to sharpen our focus to continue delivering results to stakeholders.

“We focused on our role in creating opportunities across the cattle, sheep and goat supply chains by optimising the return on collective investment in marketing and R&D.

“In 2003, the export market paid US$2.3bn for Australian beef. In 2012, for just 5% extra volume, they paid US$4.8bn. On the domestic market, still our largest single marketplace, consumer expenditure on beef increased by around 16% or $850m over this period.”
