UK food safety bodies have revealed three cattle over 72 months slipped through into the food chain without being tested for BSE.
Two cattle from a plant in Bridport, Dorset, were missed, while a further animal from a plant in Nantwich, Cheshire, failed to be tested. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is playing down the risk to human health, describing it as “very low”.
The errors were both discovered during routine cross-checking, and the FSA said it was considering options on further action on the plants involved.
