Brazil sees pork exports rise

By Carina Perkins , 18-Dec-2012

Brazil exported 540,000 tonnes of pork in the first 11 months of 2012, generating revenues of $1.4 billion, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Pork (ABIPECS).

This represents a 12.83% growth in export volumes and 4.54% growth in export value compared to the same period in 2011, which ABIPEC said was “a good result”, taking into account the import restrictions placed on Brazilian pork by Russia and Argentina, as well as the global economic crisis.

Ukraine was the biggest importer of Brazilian pork, importing 131,259 tonnes in January-November 2012, followed by Russia, Hong Kong, Angola and Singapore. Exports to Argentina fell by 43.7% in volume and 40.9% in value compared with the same period last year.
