Cargill to license bovine genetics tool
The DNA tools are intended are intended to help beef and dairy cattle producers analuse bovine genetics in order to improve meat and dairy production, said the firm.
According to Cargill its BeefGen diagnostics are based on molecular tools which may be of benefit in improving beef cattle carcase quality and production efficiency. It said the tools "help identify animals best suited to optimize weight gain, beef marbling, tenderness, red meat yield, rib eye quality and other important characteristics that could increase the value and yield from each animal harvested".
It added that the technology may also help identify genetically superior animals for breeding purposes.
Earlier this year Cargill acquired a 5% stake in Ukraine’s biggest meat producer and agricultural group, UkrLandFarming.
