Danish Crown subsidiary KLS Ugglarps AB has agreed a deal to take a majority stake in the slaughterhouse Dalsjöfors Slakteri near Borås in Sweden.

KLS Ugglarps AB would not reveal to GlobalMeatNews the size of the majority stake. It did confirm that the deal, if agreed by competition authorities, would increase Danish Crown’s revenue by approx DKK 1 billion a year (£100m).

The two companies slaughter both pigs and cattle, mainly for the Swedish retail trade.

The deal will give KLS Ugglarps’ a better geographical coverage of both the southern and central the Swedish market.

KLS Ugglarps’ is based in the Skåne and Kalmar regions while Dalsjöfors Slakteri is situated in Borås in Västra Götaland north of Gothenburg.

CEO of KLS Ugglarps Jonas Tunestål said he has the ”greatest respect” for how Dalsjöfors has been managed and developed and sees the company as an ideal future partner.
