Dutch food bosses have put out an alert after the discovery of horsemeat in a slaughterhouse prompted a block on shipments from the business.

The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) announced it had found horsemeat in four shipments labelled as beef from an unnamed business in the eastern province of Gelderland.

It has now blocked any movement of the products, up to 690 tons of meat, from the company’s facilities and has given the business until 3 February to trace all meat sales between January 2012 and January 2014. If satisfactory records are not produced, the NVWA said it would demand a recall of all of the processor’s meat.

Meanwhile, in the UK, the Food Standards Agency has published its latest quarterly update on testing, which has revealed that no beef products have been found to be contaminated with horsemeat.
