The European Commission has revised guide prices for a range of poultry imports – if the value of exports exceed these levels, the European Union (EU) can impose additional duties on their sale.

Under the new rules, which should come into force in July, the EU has set a representative price for 100kg of frozen chicken legs coming from Brazil at €135, while 100kg of frozen boneless cuts coming from Argentina have been given a guide price of €294; from Brazil €220.50; Chile €315.70; and Thailand €254.60.

If these prices are exceeded, World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules allow for additional duty to be charged. The Commission has also set a new guide price for frozen boneless cuts of turkey from Brazil at €312.50 per 100kg, and €323.60 per 100kg from Chile. And for sales of uncooked chicken preparations from Brazil, it is €267.90. Meanwhile, for Argentina, exports of frozen whole chicken, with 70% weight being water, the guide price is €122.40 per 100kg; and where 65% is water, the price is €134.30 for Argentine exports and €147.40 for products from Brazil.

These prices come into force when they are written into the EU Official Journal. They are kept under review by the Commission.
