Director general of Livestock and Animal Health Syukur Iwantoro said: “Based on the calculation of supply and demand, the supply shortage of beef next year will amount to 75,000t. We will meet the shortage with imports. Beef imports will be divided into 60% from feeder cattle imports and 40% from frozen beef imports.”
Although data on the predicted shortage of beef has been obtained, said Iwantoro, beef import quotas will be determined through a coordination meeting with Indonesia’s Ministry of Coordinating Economic.
