Parisians gripped with a hunger for steaks, sausages and other butcher-quality products can pick up raw meat 24/7 with the capital’s first meat vending machine.

The vending machine was installed outside the butcher’s shop L’Ami Txulette in the 11th arrondissement of the French capital on Wednesday 4 February.

It is the first automatic chilled meat distributor in Paris and means consumers with a sudden craving for 1am beef carpaccio can collect it for the price of €6 ($6.70).

Market price meat

According to Parisian media, the machine sells meat at market prices and accepts credit card and cash. Among the offerings is a 250g sirloin steak for €8.50 ($9.50) and a twin set of pork ribs for €5 ($5.58).

The meat vending machine is not the first in France, though. There are around four additional meat-specific vending machines dotted across the country.

The machine cost around nearly €10,000 ($11,179) and is part of a growing trend in Paris to make produce available around the clock.

Mixed reaction

The vending machine offers a selection of our products which we prepare and vacuum-pack ourselves. We wanted to give our customers an additional service when the shop is closed,” the L’Ami Txulette butchery told The Telegraph.

Since being unveiled in Paris, the machine has been met with mixed reception online with one Twitter user saying the idea of eating meat from a vending machine constituted “poor life decisions”.
