Polish meat processor Konspol has unveiled plans to set up a new meat processing plant in Asia. The company recently signed a contract to export its poultry meat products to Japan and is aiming to expand to other Asian markets, according to Kazimierz Pazgan, chief executive of Konspol Holding.

"Asia has a population of four billion people, a market with an incredible potential, one where consumers are increasingly affluent and want to eat better and more healthily. This market is made for us," Pazgan told local news agency Newseria.

The initiative to launch a new meat processing facility in Asia is part of the Polish firm’s plan to expand in a wide range of export markets, according to the chief executive. Currently, exports generate about 30% of Konspol’s revenues.

"Konspol has a very high production potential. It is currently more than 15,000 tonnes of products per month and a very wide range of products. We are continuing to develop [our product portfolio] and focus on quality, because it is only through quality and [low] costs that we can be competitive on foreign markets," Pazgan said.

In addition to this, in early 2014, company representatives announced that the Polish firm is also planning to invest in the modernisation and expansion of its packaging capacity.

The meat processor’s leading export markets include the UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, France, Slovakia and the Scandinavian countries, according to data released by Konspol.

Pazgan said the company is also aiming to strengthen its position in Poland. "I think that the Polish market is very demanding, and also highly competitive," he said.

Based in Nowy Sącz in Southern Poland, the firm specialises in poultry meat processing. Its product portfolio includes ham, frankfurters, sausages, chicken wings and other products. Konspol has been active in the Polish meat processing market since 1992.
