Due to the Middle East’s growing interest in Welsh Lamb, representatives from the Welsh red meat industry will be travelling to Dubai to further promote the product.
The Gulfood trade show, due to be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre on 25-28 February, will see Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC) staff and Welsh Lamb exporters join together for the event.
Exports for Welsh Lamb in the United Arab Emirates increased by a staggering 65% in 2011, compared with the previous year. There has been a growing demand and the interest is continuing to rise.
Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Kuwait were among the countries who sent out delegates to the UK earlier this month on a trade mission, where they visited a Welsh sheep farm and two Welsh abattoirs.
HCC chief executive Gwyn Howells explained: “The Middle East has the potential to be an excellent market for Welsh Lamb. It has been sold in Dubai for the last six years and demand is growing.”
“Customers there recognise the premium quality that Welsh Lamb offers and our presence at Gulfood will give us the opportunity to build on the success we have already achieved in the United Arab Emirates and explore new markets in the region.”
