MTech's systems help run swine and poultry businesses on six continents

US poultry and swine production software firm MTech has been snapped up by Sweden’s Munters Group, a global leader in energy-efficient air treatment and climate solutions.

Munters, which is based in Atlanta, said the acquisition would boost its services by giving it access to advanced data analytics. By combining the expertise and solutions of the two companies, Munters would be able to provide full control of the supply chain for poultry and swine production, it added.

Munters’ agricultural activities focus on efficient control of the indoor climate for animals and plants to ensure optimum performance. It has 3,000 employees and is active in more than 30 countries, reporting annual net sales of Swedish Krona (SKr) 6 billion (€663.6m/US$673.4m), and is owned by Nordic Capital Fund VII.

For more than 30 years, MTech has been constantly working to improve data management and planning in the production and processing industry through its software. Its applications can be found running swine and poultry businesses on six continents in more than 20 countries.

Boost commercial returns

Combining advanced environmental controls with superior data-collection and analytics would help integrators, distributors and farmers around the world boost commercial returns, claimed Munters.

“Munters is heavily involved in ensuring that people get food on the table, by controlling the climate in installations all around the world,” said Peter Gisel-Ekdahl, president AgHort at Munters. “Combining Munters’ climate control systems on farms and in factories with MTech’s planning and optimisation software will bring a new level of intelligence and increase the ability to connect all parts of the supply chain for poultry and swine production.”

Mike Walker, president and chief executive officer at MTech, said: “As the traditional lines between hardware and software have begun to disappear, we see Munters as the perfect partner with which to continue to innovate and adapt on behalf of our clients. Munters’ global footprint will also allow us to better service both our domestic and international client base.”

The precise financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
