Danish-owned pork processor Prime Food has completed its €7.5m investment in Przechlewo, northern Poland, and is hoping to create 100 new jobs.

The company launched a new meat processing facility fitted with a floorspace of some 3,700sq m. The project will enable Prime Food to double its annual output capacity, as well as add new products to its portfolio, according to senior company representatives.

The latest investment is estimated to be worth about PLN32m (€7.5m). As part of its project, Prime Food is aiming to create 100 new jobs in Przechlewo. The plant comprises a new packaging and storage facility, as well as offices for the company’s staff.

Paweł Nowak, chief executive of Prime Food, told local news site Portalspozywczy.pl that the investment in Przechlewo would allow the meat processor to increase its total processing capacity from about 300 to 600 tonnes per week. In addition to this, the company would be enabled to expand its product range, according to Nowak.

Tech solutions

We want to further stimulate our company’s development and maintain our market position by exporting our products to the EU member states, the US and Japan,” Nowak said. “We will continue to implement the latest technological solutions with the aim to further increase our slaughtering and meat cutting capacities. In our company’s strategy for the forthcoming four years, we included further stages of expansion.”

Prime Food’s product range comprises sausages, hams, smoked sirloins, frankfurters and smoked bacon, according to data released by the firm. The company said it was the first meat processor to introduce the modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) technology to the Polish meat industry at the turn of 2000 and 2001.

Prime Food has launched the recruitment process to take on employees for its new facility. Currently, the meat processor is operated by a workforce of about 900 employees.

Set up in 1999, the Poland-based company says it is headquartered in Przechlewo, and its facilities are HACCP- and BRC-certified. Prime Food is part of the Danish-owned Polen Invest A/S group, which operates in Poland’s food and agricultural sectors. Polen Invest A/S operates as an investment company, which is a subsidiary of Ukraine Invest A/S.

As pork meat remains the most popular type of meat in the Polish market, local industry players have the potential to continue their growth and invest in further expanding their pork meat processing capacities. An average Pole is estimated to consume about 39.5kg of pork meat annually, as shown by data from the state-run Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics (IERiGZ).

In addition to the domestic market, Prime Food exports its processed pork products to a number of EU member states, as well as numerous countries in North America and East Asia, according to data released by the firm.

Przechlewo is located more than 330km from the country’s capital Warsaw.
