Total poultry sales amounted to 75,860 tonnes, compared to 53,570 tonnes for the first quarter of 2011. Prices showed a 1% year-on-year increase, from $2.43 per kg in 2011 to $2.40 per kg in 2012. However, prices went down 2% from Q4 2011.
In the pork division, sales volumes rose by 12% to 22,660 tonnes of live weight, compared to 20,220 in Q1 2011. Prices increased by 4% year-on-year, reaching $2.66 per kg of live weight, and stayed flat from Q4 2011.
Cherkizovo’s meat processing segment registered a 12% fall in sales volumes, from 33,200 tonnes in Q1 2011 to 29,115 tonnes in Q1 2012. The company attributed the decrease to the closure of an “inefficient” slaughtering facility in southern Russia (Labinsk).
However, prices in dollar terms increased by 10% year-on year, from $4.30 per kg to $4.75 per kg. This is a 4% rise compared to Q4 2012.
