Meat firm pens bacon deal with NFL team Green Bay Packers
Patrick Cudahy is a meat brand owned by US pork giant Smithfield Foods. The brand is known locally for producing a sweet apple-wood smoked bacon, which will be the official bacon of the Green Bay Packers NFL team again.
“Patrick Cudahy, Wisconsin, and the Green Bay Packers are inseparable,” said Bud Matthews, Patrick Cudahy brand senior vice-president for Smithfield Foods.
“We are honoured to partner with the Packers for a second season. Packers fans are unlike any other in sports, and we are looking forward to bringing our brand experience to the team’s loyal fan base throughout the state with our new ‘Pack Wagon’.”
Mobile bacon wagon
As part of the new deal, a mobile marketing campaign has been launched to push sales. The aptly dubbed ‘Pack Wagon’ will visit retailers and festivals over the summer, while samples, coupons and giveaways will also be on offer.
The partnership will see Smithfield brand Patrick Cudahy operate a kiosk at the Green Bay Packers stadium, Lambeau Field. Alongside the apple-wood smoked bacon, Patrick Cudahy said it would debut its new Black Forest bacon for football fans.
“The Green Bay Packers are excited to continue our partnership with Patrick Cudahy,” said Chad Watson, Green Bay Packers director of sales and business development.
“We are thrilled to once again provide Patrick Cudahy’s unique offerings for our fans at Lambeau Field.”
Smithfield Foods, the company behind the Patrick Cudahy brand, claims to be the world’s largest pork processor and pig producer. The firm is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hong Kong-based food giant WH Group.
