Europe’s agriculture minister have reaffirmed their commitment to pushing climate change adaptation measures through reforms to the Common Agricultural policy.

Sustainable food production was key to discussions at a meeting of the Informal Agriculture Council, which took place in Cyprus on 9-11 September. Basing debate around a working document prepared by the Cyprus presidency, ministers talked about how CAP reform could encourage improved water management and soil protection.

Speaking after the meeting, Cypriot Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Sofoclis Aletraris told press: “At today’s meeting the strong commitment of the member states to the necessity of taking concrete measures to adapt to climate change was reconfirmed.”
