The first police operation intercepted 5,250kg of beef contained in 75 parcels on an Ajmer-Ahmedabad train on Tuesday 17 January. The shipments were labelled “buffalo meat”, as the sale of cow meat is illegal in many parts of the country.
On Wednesday 18 January, the GRP apprehended another 61 parcels containing 4,270 kg of beef on a Jaipur-Ahmedabad passenger train, after officers noticed the packages were leaking from the ice used to preserve the meat during transport.
At least four people were arrested on Tuesday, and the GRP believes they were also involved in the illegal smuggling that happened on Wednesday.
