Detection specialist Mettler Toledo is anticipating growing demand within the meat sector thanks to changes in US regulation.

Speaking at the International Production and Processing Expo in Atlanta, Joseph Gianfalla, marketing manager for North America, said changes to food safety rules brought in last year meant processing companies were now obliged to have detection systems.

He said: “The larger processors would already have had them, but not the smaller operators, so the change has had a big impact on our business with those companies now investing.”

He said the rules not only affected companies in the US, but companies who wanted to export into the US market would also have to comply with the regulations.
