A UK competition at this year’s Foodex show aims to recognise investments and innovation by food and drink manufacturers that helped to lift the UK economy out of the recession.

The competition, entitled Great British Bounce Back, aims to encourage those businesses investing in the UK’s manufacturing industries and will also showcase best-practice examples.

It seeks out companies that have invested in the next-generation workforce through apprenticeships, have made reductions in energy consumption or have worked to ensure traceability.

The previous winner was a bakery recognised for its £3m investment in an automation packaging production line, which increased the plant’s capacity and improved efficiency.

To take part, companies are encouraged to explain, in 50 words or less, why their organisation should win at The public will vote for its favourite entries, which will be shortlisted and displayed at the show.

The competition will take place at Foodex, which is held in Birmingham, UK from 24-26 March.
