Lamb from the United States has been introduced to the Guatemalan foodservice sector, the United States Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has announced.

USMEF reported that US legs of lamb, provided by one of its members Superior Farms, were being offered to the Guatemalan market.

"In the short term we are focused on the foodservice market," said Lucia Ruano, head buyer for Guatemalan food supplier Grupo Campeón. "But we are also evaluating the potential for US lamb in the retail sector, depending on how Guatemalan consumers respond to the product."

Grupo Campeón decided to import the product after visiting USMEF at a trade exhibition, the Americas Food and Beverage Show, in the US, which Ruano said was "beneficial" to the company.

"It’s an excellent way for importers to gather information on new products and make connections with suppliers," Ruano reported.
