US packaging specialist Weber has launched a new label-printing machine which pledges “faster and more versatile labelling" for food manufacturers.

Weber Packaging Solutions claims the new model L-A 6000 height variable label printer meets demand for “newer, faster and more versatile labelling systems”.

The machine is capable of printing and stamping up to 40 labels per minute on packaging of variable heights. This enables distribution centres to quickly stamp labels of products of different heights in the same production line, saving time and money.

Thanks to the new machine’s tamp-blow method of print and application, over 2,400 boxes can be labelled per hour by Weber’s L-A 6000.

Products up to heights of 500mm can be stamped by the printer, which uses a senor to determine the height of the product. Once height has been detected, the print applicator moves at fast speeds to the correct position. This reduces the amount of travel the machine may make, meaning the L-A 6000 can label up to 50% faster thanks to its pneumatic cylinder stamp which Weber claims also boosts print accuracy.

Performance optimised

The modular design of Weber’s new machine allows easy access for servicing and maintenance. This makes the changing of labels and ribbons, as well as the cleaning of the module’s thermal print head quick and easy.

Equipped with a range of interchangeable dispensing heads, users can easily change the size of the labels. Using print engines created by Zebra or SATO, Weber’s machine can print labels as either thermal-transfer or direct thermal.

Performance wise, the machine is most efficient when using a light-weight servo-driven carbon fibre motor. With an ergonomically-designed adjustable reel holder, the LA-600 can handle large label roles up to 350mm in diameter for reduced downtime.

The business is due to unveil the new label print application at the Pack Expo International 2016 Show in Chicago, 6-9 November. Weber can be founded at booth 3541.
