The competition to determine the World’s Best Steak is back for 2018.

Now in its fourth year, the World Steak Challenge awards the top producers of quality steak.

Last year’s winner was ABP Poland, the Polish division of ABP Food Group, which pipped an entry from the previous year’s winner, Australian cattle ranch Jack’s Creek, entered by Albers GMBH.

GlobalMeatNews deputy editor Aidan Fortune said: “The World Steak Challenge is about celebrating the pleasure and the benefits of eating steak as part of a healthy, balanced diet. This ultimate test of rib eye, fillet and sirloin highlights the quality and premium standard of beef production across the globe.

Every year we are served with an embarrassment of top-quality steaks. All three competitions have been incredibly close and I’m sure 2018 will be no different as we cast the net even wider in the search for premium steak production.”

In last year’s World Steak Challenge, entries were received from 17 countries, with 10 of them securing Gold medals.

Of the 17 Golds awarded, seven were for rib eye, five for sirloin and five for fillet. Nine of the winners were grain-fed and eight grass-fed.

Judging for the competition is blind, and conducted by a panel of independent experts, chaired by South African butcher Alan Franck. He explained why beef producers should enter.

“You should enter this challenge if you believe you have a world-class steak and feel that you are up for being judged by professional meat connoisseurs,” said Franck. “If you enter, you could earn the accolade of an award-winning steak which will prove to be invaluable in the promotion of your products.”

Closing date for entries is 4 June 2018. Click here to enter.
