Australia, Bulgaria, Brazil, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA will all battle it out to see who is the best in the world. To see some of the prep the teams are doing, check out the gallery below (to be added in CMS).
The holder, France, will be hoping to defend its crown but with eight countries entering the competition for the first time this year, the World Butchers’ Challenge title could end up anywhere in the world.
As well as the competition, there will be a comprehensive study tour of Ireland, taking in butchery businesses from both sides of the border.
Ahead of the study tour, a World Butchers’ Challenge Organising Council spokesperson said: “Like many countries in the northern hemisphere, Ireland is home to plenty of multi-generational butchers with a long history of value-adding and maximising customer experience. We’ll visit these stores to hear their stories and successes plus a number of other locations, such as processing plants and retail meat packing sites to see what makes them world-class. And that’s all before the main event.”
This year’s competition takes place at IFEX in Belfast on Wednesday 21 March, with the Young Butcher & Apprentice Competition taking place the day before. If you’re attending IFEX, here’s everything you need to know.
