As part of its expansion plans, Polish meat distributor Janex has commissioned a new storage facility which is to be fitted with a surface of some 4,800m2.

The project, carried out by local developer MLP Group, will be developed in the build-to-suit (BTS) format.

The facility will be part of the group’s logistics park MLP Pruszków II, located about 5km from the city of Pruszków, in Poland’s central region. The logistics park offers locations in A-class buildings, according to the developer.

“The completion of the construction work and the delivery of the facility is scheduled for March 2019,” MLP Group said in a statement.

Further expansion potential

Janex and MLP Group signed a deal for a period of 12 years. Should the meat business decide to increase its storage capacities, as part of the agreement, Janex will be able to potentially double the company's storage surface within the logistics park, according to MLP Group.

“The lessee will be enabled to increase the [storage] surface by a further 5,000m2,” the statement said.

Janex and MLP Group were assisted in the deal by the Los Angeles-based real estate services provider CBRE, according to the developer. The value of the latest transaction was not disclosed by the firms.

Set up in 1991 and headquartered in Poland’s capital Warsaw, Janex said it distributes a wide range of meat and processed meat products. These consist of pork, beef, lamb, veal and poultry meat products, such as sausages, bacon, hamburgers, ribs, fillets, drumsticks and others, according to data from the meat business. In addition to its existing distribution centre in Warsaw, the Polish company operates its own meat cutting facility.

Improved logistics capacities

Located in close proximity to the country’s capital, MLP Pruszków II is one of MLP’s eight logistics parks located in the Polish market. The expansion will provide Janex with increased logistics capacities and access to the A2 motorway which connects central Poland with the Polish-German border.

Janex supplies its products to various customers from the HoReCa (on-trade) segment, retail and catering chains, as well as other institutions and entities, such as hospitals, nursing homes and nursery schools, according to data from the Polish company. Some of its customers, which are predominantly located in the country’s central Mazowieckie region, include Auchan, Sodexo, Frisco, Hotel Marriott Warsaw, InterContinental Hotel Warsaw, Hilton Warsaw Hotel & Convention Centre, Hard Rock Café Warsaw, North Food, Eurest Poland, ISS Polska, and many others, according to Janex.

While the Mazowieckie region represents the main market for the meat business, Janex also has dedicated sales representatives for the country’s southern Małopolskie region and the central Łódzkie region.

Janex is owned by local entrepreneurs Elżbieta and Sławomir Wiesiak. The company says its facilities are IFS- and BRC-certified.
