Western’s Smokehouse is tapping growing consumer trends for healthier products in the US with the introduction of a three-strong meat snack stick line.

Rolled out throughout the US and scheduled for general availability by the 1 July, the ‘Simply Good’ range comprises three variants including Jalapeno, Original and Barbeque that contain lean cuts of beef and pork.

The meat snack sticks are individually wrapped and do not contain any nitrates, gluten, soy and monosodium glutamate (MSG).

Western Smokehouse’s chief operating officer Kevin Western said snacking has become more popular as an alternative to the traditional three meals a day, with a particular focus on protein.

Today many consumers are looking to live happier and healthier lifestyles, and with less predictable eating times, consumer are forced to fuel up when they can,” said Western. “Clean, simple ingredient lists are becoming increasingly important, as more consumers turn away from products having preservatives and gluten. At Western’s, we continue to adapt our offerings to meet customer demand.”

Earlier this month, North American natural foods firm Greenspace claimed to have launched the first meat snack line in a bar format into the Canadian market with three grass-fed beef flavours.

Western’s Smokehouse is a family-owned and -operated manufacturer of premium smoked meat products, which is based in Greentop, Missouri.
