US pork producer Seaboard Triumph Foods is set to begin second-shift processing at its plant in Sioux City, Iowa.

The firm confirmed that it would run a full second-shift production from October 2018 at the plant, which will see the company employ an additional 900 people.

The move will enable the facility to process 21,000 market hogs daily, which will be marketed by its strategic partner Seaboard Foods.

The Sioux City plant started first shift operations in September after a two-year plant construction project. The design of the facility incorporated robotics and technologies, resulting in a modern, state-of-the-art facility to produce pork for consumers in several market segments, including retail, international, foodservice and further processing markets.

We are extremely thankful and proud of the entire team who has made this moment possible,” said Seaboard Triumph Foods chief operating officer Mark Porter.

With commitment and dedication to make the first shift fully operational, we all are looking forward to the second shift ramp-up. We are so appreciative of the collaborative efforts with the regional hog producers who have helped supply our plant. Continuing to build new and strengthen existing relationships with those producers is very important to us.”

The Seaboard Triumph Foods’ Sioux City plant, owned equally by strategic partners Seaboard Foods and Triumph Foods, produces fresh pork products under the domestic Prairie Fresh Pork brand and Seaboard Farms international brand.

The plant also supplies Daily’s Premium Meats with raw materials for its pork products, including raw and precooked bacon.
