Despite JN Meat International winning the headlines at this year’s World Steak Challenge event, it was beef producers from Ireland who scooped the greatest number of medals on the chart.

Ireland collected 30 medals during the competition, while the winning steak country – Finland – took 22 medals. Following closely behind, England collected 19 and Australia 18.

Finland collected the majority of the Gold medals, at 22, while the judges’ favourite steak was deemed as a Rib-Eye which had 23 Golds.

World Steak Challenge also witnessed a first since the competition launched in 2015, as Grass-Fed steaks won out over Grain-Fed cuts. There were 32 Gold medals awarded to Grass-Fed steaks, while 13 Gold Medals went to Grain-Fed steaks.

JN Meat International scooped 10 Gold medals, while Sweden’s Bjursunds Slakteri AB and Germany’s OSI International Holding claimed 4 Gold medals each.

The Ayrshire breed also pleased judges’ palates with 10 Gold medals, followed by the Angus at five and then the Simmental Cross and the Wagyu Cross coming in at 4 each.

Running for its fourth successive year, World Steak Challenge was held at the Magic Roundabout in London on 4 July. The event welcomed more than 200 entrants from 22 different countries – a record number since the competition began in 2015.
