US-based pork processor Sioux-Preme Packing has had plans to expand its pork harvest operation in Sioux County approved by the Iowa Economic Development Board.

The $29m project will create 50 new jobs at a 50,000sq foot extension to help meet demand for its speciality pork products.

The Sioux Center facility was acquired by Perdue Farms in 2015 as part of its acquisition of Natural Food Holdings and its brands. The expansion will include installation of high-tech automated pork cutting equipment and water jet cutting technologies.

Sioux-Preme Packing has been in operation since 1969 and specialises in providing custom harvest and processing for customers who require special needs, such as segregation related to antibiotic-free, natural, organic or breed-specific products.
