US-based Diana Food has invested over US$60m in a chicken processing plant in Banks County, Georgia.

The site will be stretched across 40 acres of land and will be more than 100,000 sq ft, with its first commercial quantities expected to be shipped by the end of this year.

The plant, which is now operational, is described by the business as “ultramodern” and will deliver innovative natural chicken solutions to customers.

Diana Food’s president Yannick Riou said the plant represented a “significant milestone” for its operations in the US.

With more than 100,000 square feet of space on 40 acres of land and an investment of over $60m, we are able to apply a kitchen-like, gentle process to chicken on a massive scale,” said Riou.

He added that the proximity to premium local sources was a key driver in the selection of the Banks County site, as it aimed to commit to responsibly sourced products.

Our supply chain will operate according to the highest quality standards and food safety criteria, deploying high animal welfare with ‘to the farm’ traceability.”

To celebrate the opening, Diana Food held a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony under the theme ‘Authenticity Happens Here’, which the company said reflected its commitment to providing a full experience of authentic chicken.

Visitors, including government officials and local contractors, were also taken on a guided tour of the plant.

Diana Food is part of the Symrise group, which is a global supplier of ingredients and raw materials for the meat sector.
