Piglet project launched in Spain

The collaboration will allow the birth of piglets through an innovative method of assisted reproduction developed by the team of the Department of Physiology of the University, coordinated by the professor and person in charge of the project, Pilar Coy.

As part of the project, researchers will carry out the monitoring and control of the growth, metabolism, resistance to diseases or reproductive capacity of the animals reproduced both with the new method and with the conventional technique, and will be able to compare them with the animals born by natural fertilization.

The collaboration has been formalised by the CEO of Cefusa, José Fuertes, and the rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, at an event held at the Rector's Office of the University.

Part of Grupo Fuertes, Cefusa’s activity is centred on the breeding and fattening of White and Iberian pigs, as well as cows. It is the main livestock supplier to Grupo Fuertes’s meat processing company, ElPozo Alimentación. It has livestock facilities and feed mills in various municipalities in the south east of Spain.
