US processors Tyson and Hillshire Farm have partnered with Mexican seasoning brand Tajín to create a new range of products.

Tajín’s seasoning is a blend of mild chili peppers, dehydrated lime juice and sea salt, and is primarily used to enhance the flavour of desserts, vegetables, fresh fruit and, now, protein.

The Tyson and Hillshire Farm brands hope to make it easy to explore the Tajín flavours by infusing the seasoning directly into the chicken and sausage products.

The range includes Tyson Tajín Chili Lime Chicken Nuggets; Tyson Any’tizers Tajín Chili Lime Boneless Chicken Bites; Hillshire Farm Tajín Chili Lime Smoked Sausage with Mango; Hillshire Farm Tajín Chili Lime Lit’l Smokies; and Hillshire Farm Tajín Chili Lime Smoked Sausage.

“We know people are looking for more authentic, flavour-forward foods that tap into today’s globalised palates,” said chef Alexa McKay, who helped develop the Tajín-flavoured products for the Tyson brand. “Our partnership with Tajín not only delivers on the growing interest in these flavour varieties, but also means you don’t have to make a trip to your favourite ethnic restaurant to enjoy them.”

Chef Michelle Duran, who worked on the Tajín-flavoured products for Hillshire Farm brand, added: “Tajín brings a unique, flavourful chili-lime 'zing' that pairs perfectly with these products. Now, consumers will have even more opportunities to spice up meals with our new flavourful sausage and chicken offerings.”

Tyson recently announced a new value-added direction for the business at its most recent investor day.
