US processor Tyson Foods has announced a $27m investment in its prepared foods plant in Illinois.

The investment, part of an efficiency and support drive by the business, will add three new production lines to the site and create around 100 new jobs.

In a statement provided to GlobalMeatNews, a Tyson Foods spokesman said: “As part of our strategic plan to increase efficiency and better support the plant’s production capabilities, we are in the process of a $27m upgrade to our Caseyville, Illinois prepared foods facility. The project will include the addition three new lines that will produce approximately 16 million pounds of product annually. This investment will result in the creation of approximately 100 new jobs and we expect the lines to be operational by March of this year.”

Tyson was recently part of the launch of a new Coalition for Global Protein at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos. The initiative seeks to increase understanding around the challenges of feeding a growing global population.

Its head of poultry also recently spoke to GlobalMeatNews about the opportunity that a trade deal between the US and China would bring.
