Dutch meat producer Vion has responded to the increase in demand for organic produce in Germany with the launch of a beef and pork range.

Debuted at the Biofach organic food trade show in Nuremberg, Der Grüne Weg is based on Vion’s Dutch equivalent De Groene Weg.

The Der Grüne Weg range includes organic beef, ribeye, beef tenderloin and rump steak, as well as burgers and minced meat. The Quinoa meat pan, previously introduced at Anuga 2019, is now also available as an organic variant in the bacon and curry flavours.

On the pork side, breaded schnitzel, filet and the Minute steak, both natural and marinated, are the organic pork products that will be displayed at the trade fair.

According to Vion, demand in Germany is growing by more than 10% annually, while in Scandinavia and France the organic meat segment is growing even faster.

At the show, Vion is also set to present a new sustainable packaging concept for organic products. These packages contain 60% less plastic than others, and the different materials can also be easily separated, so that they can be recycled per type. In addition, an increasing proportion of packaging is made from recycled plastic.

All other products from Der Grüne Weg are provided with a very environmentally friendly packaging, largely made of cardboard. The steaks are packed in meat trays that contain 80% less plastic than regular ones and whose entire packaging is recyclable.
