Clonakilty Food Company opened its new factory as it plots a course for growth
A multi-million euro investment has allowed artisan black pudding producer Clonakilty Food Company to open a new factory in West Cork, Ireland.

Designed to support the company’s international sales push, the 5,000sq m factory has a production space, new product development suite, distribution bay, office spaces and a glitzy visitor centre showing tourists how the black pudding is made.

We are really proud of our new home in Clonakilty that will facilitate our company’s vision for growth. We have ambitious plans to scale up internationally and this new plant enables us to do so, making this a very exciting time for the company,” said Colette Twomey, CEO of Clonakilty Food Company.

Our new visitor centre will also be a fresh direction for Clonakilty Food Co and we are looking forward to becoming part of the town’s bustling tourism industry. We could not have made our dream a reality without the fantastic support of so many local people – builders, designers, tradespeople and the local community. Clonakilty is a fantastic place to live and do business in.”

Secret black pudding recipe

Clonakilty is best known for its black pudding, made using a recipe that dates back to 1880. It uses a secret blend of spices and, rather than the traditional pork blood, is made using beef blood, which is reputed to give it a richer flavour.

The meat producer sells products in Ireland and the UK. Retailers including Sainsbury’s, Selfridges, Budgens and Morrisons stock Clonakilty’s range of black puddings.

GlobalMeatNews will be speaking to Clonakilty’s CEO Colette Twomey this week about the new factory and the company’s strategy, so stay tuned for more content.
