Pork processor Danish Crown has reassured customers that its slaughter and production will continue as normal until Friday at the very least.

Following measures implemented by the Danish Government to limit the spread of the disease, the processor issued a statement that it “expect to slaughter as planned for the rest of the week” as it has “a job in making sure there are items on the shelves of the supermarkets”.

It added that more information will be made available at the end of the week.

It said: “Danish Crown is one of the companies that has a social responsibility to ensure that there are goods in stores. We will do so responsibly in relation to all employees in production, in our administration and, not least, our owners, the Danish farmers.

“Maintaining production is the first priority and all necessary measures are taken at the slaughterhouses.”

GlobalMeatNews’ sister title The Grocer recently reported that the Coronavirus had caused issues between the UK and China as product was unable to be shipped from the former to the latter. It was reported that pork was stuck in storage causing a backlog of stock.
