Mexican meat supply chain urges responsible shopping

The Mexican meat industry has made a joint appeal to the public to shop responsibly during the coronavirus situation.

In a statement from companies and organisations in the Mexican meat chain, it urged shoppers to act responsibly to ensure that everyone has enough food.

“We have sufficient resources and the necessary logistical coordination to maintain the supply that they provide to the Mexican population on time with the products meats made in Mexico,”​ it said. “We call on the population to make responsible purchases, without hoarding products. These behaviors can negatively affect people who have urgent needs or limited resources.”

It also issued advice to consumers to reduce wastage of meat products.

“When buying meat food, the consumer must ensure the cold chain, keep in refrigeration and/or freeze them, follow the indications of the labels for correct handling. It is very important that the products purchased preferably have the TIF seal that guarantees health and safety.

“The consumption of meat protein is essential in a mixed and balanced diet. The meat contains nine essential amino acids and is a source of Vitamin B12 and minerals such as iron, zinc and selenium, components that contribute to maintaining an immune system strong and healthy.

“Likewise, companies and organizations in the meat value chain will maintain permanent contact with federal and state authorities, to implement the pertinent measures that allow the proper functioning of the sector for the benefit of all the Mexican population. We invite society to show solidarity and adopt prevention and hygiene measures recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health (SSA). By acting with responsibility, unity and solidarity we will succeed.”
