Canadian protein firm recalls beef lips products
The US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall by Bassett & Walker International, Inc, based in Toronto, Canada, on 7 July. It stressed that without the benefit of a full inspection, a possibility of adverse health consequences existed.
The product was produced and shipped on various dates between 2 March 2015 and 7 April 2015, and was distributed to retail outlets and restaurants in the San Diego area of California.
Batches recalled
The following products were subject to recall:
55-pound boxes containing ‘Beef Lips’, manufactured by Australian Est. 4, JBS PTY Limited
55-pound boxes containing ‘Beef Lips’, manufactured by Australian Est. 170, JBS PTY Limited
55-pound boxes containing ‘Beef Lips’, manufactured by Australian Est. 235, JBS PTY Limited
55-pound boxes containing ‘Beef Lips’, manufactured by Australian Est. 517, JBS PTY Limited
The problem was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities on imported products.
FSIS and Bassett & Walker International have received no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. The USDA said anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
