The panda is a warning for all against veganism, delegates to the World Meat Congress were told.

Pascal Mainsant, speaking out against the ongoing calls for reduced meat consumption, told the audience in Paris that the panda was a bear and equipped with claws and teeth for eating meat. However, at some point in its evolution, it turned away from a carnivorous diet and now had to spend 14 hours a day eating bamboo.

He said: “As a result of not eating meat, the panda now has poor sexual and maternal instincts, and has experienced a 90% reduction in its sex drive. Extinction is just round the corner. It’s very dangerous – that’s why we should avoid vegetarianism.”
