Meat firms hit by huge food safety recall

Nine US meat businesses have been forced to recall a total of over 3.5 million lbs of produce due to the presence of undeclared allergens.

The businesses, including meat giant Tyson Foods​, are from all over the US, and had to recall the product when it was discovered that the breadcrumbs used by their supplier potentially contained undeclared milk.

On 8 June, ​Pennsylvania-based Aldon Food Corporation announced it was recalling approximately 18,570lbs of chicken salad due to the issue, while New York-based Water Lilies Food recalled approximately 4,335lbs of ready-to-eat breaded chicken products, and Maid-Rite Specialty Foods, Pennsylvania, recalled approximately 174,000lbs of various beef products.

The following day (9 June) Packer Avenue Foods in Pennsylvania recalled approximately 9,690lbs of ready-to-eat chicken salad. Gourmet Boutique, of New York and Arizona, was forced to recall approximately 294,744lbs of ready-to-eat chicken products.

Advance Pierre Foods, Maine, is recalling approximately 54,699lbs of chicken tenders and breaded dark meat products while Pork King Sausage of New York is recalling approximately 44,035lbs of raw sausage link products.

Conagra Brands, Pennsylvania,​ is recalling approximately 700,125lbs of spaghetti and meatball products and Tyson Foods, also of Pennsylvania​, is recalling approximately 2,485,374lbs pounds of ready-to-eat breaded chicken products.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Ohio business CC Kitchens is recalling approximately 2,415lbs of ready-to-eat meat and poultry salad products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes.
